Unit Information

This unit of competency suits people seeking the skills and knowledge to establish, maintain and facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in the workplace.

The unit applies to workers in nominated occupational first aid or management roles. This program is not normally offered to new starters in the first aid management sector.

Students should consider this training program to be one (1) week and one (1) day of study, research, training and assessment. Students must be prepared to be engaged with Australian Management & Safety Training and be willing to contribute their own time, effort and resources and be genuinely committed to working toward a satisfactory outcome.

No pre-requisites apply to this unit of competency, however, AMAST recommends students hold a minimum of HLTAID011 Provide First Aid before commencing this unit of competency.

On successful completion of the training program Students will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for HLTAID016 Manage First Aid Services and Resources.

Program of study

Phase 1 Self-Paced Study

One (1) week prior to the student attending class where the student will study the text book and prepare to attend class. Students are expected to read and understand the theory delivered in the book and be properly prepared to attend the face to face class training and assessment.

Students are provided with:

  • Occupational First Aid by John Haines
  • Student Study Schedule

The Australian Management & Safety Training trainer and assessor will ask for evidence of this activity prior to commencing the face to face training days. The Student Study Schedule that is issued to the student has provision for the student to make a declaration to confirm they have read and understood the pre-reading material.

The student must complete a series of assessment questions that are designed to confirm they have read and understood the pre-reading material. The AMAST trainer and assessor will assess the student's response.

Phase 2 Face to face training and assessment

One (1) day face to face class training and assessment:

  • Face to face class presentation and training
  • Trainer led training
  • Trainer led assessment
  • One (1) day of ten (10) hours duration. Face to face training in class
  • Underpinning knowledge assessment (face to face)
  • Practical assessment (face to face)
  • Revision
  • Opportunities for questions, answers and feedback
