Unit Information

This unit of competency suits people working in a situation or preparing to work in a situation where they must escape from hazardous situations unaided in coal and metalliferous mining.

Students should consider this training program to be one (1) week and one (1) day of study, research, training and assessment. Students must be prepared to be engaged with Australian Management and Safety Training and be willing to contribute their own time, effort and resources and be genuinely committed to working toward a satisfactory outcome.

On successful completion of the training program students will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for RIIERR203E Escape from hazardous situations unaided.

Program of Study

Phase 1 Self-Paced Study

One (1) week prior to the student attending class where the student will study the learner resource and prepare to attend class. Students are expected to read and understand the theory delivered in the learner resource and be properly prepared to attend the face to face class training and assessment.

Students are issued with:

  • An Australian Management and Safety Training Learner Guide
  • Recommended reading
  • Reference sources
  • Relevant websites
  • Recommended completion time frame

The Australian Management and Safety Training trainer and assessor will ask for evidence of this activity prior to commencing the face to face training days. The Student Study Schedule that is issued to the student has provision for the student to make a declaration to confirm they have read and understood the pre-reading material.

Phase 2 Face to face training and assessment

One (1) day face to face class training and assessment:

  • Face to face class presentation and training
  • Trainer led training
  • Trainer led assessment
  • One (1) of ten (10) hours duration. Face to face training in class
  • Underpinning knowledge assessment (face to face)
  • Practical assessment (face to face)
  • Revision
  • Opportunities for questions, answers and feedback
